Went into this shop today to donate some books and buy some books. The attitude of the staff was immediately off-putting. They immediately refused any donations after hearing I wasn't going to gift aid them. There were two other people making donations at the same time.I have now donated them to another grateful charity shop, and bought some items from there as well.St barnabas need to look into this store, twice recently I have had a very negative encounter there. It used to be a very nice shop but whatever has changed over the last year needs reversing.

The sign on the door says they are open on Sundays 10am-4pm. Yet EVERY time I go there on a Sunday during those hours it's closed. I don't want anyone else to be put off from going there during the week (they are a charity after all) but it is false advertising and extremely bad manners to say you're open and then blow customers off by staying shut. I'll be donating my money and items elsewhere.

I would never wish to deter someone from shopping at a charity shop due to the good causes they support. However, if you choose to shop here, please remember to ask for an itemised receipt. After buying an item here, I asked to return it and was told that I couldn't by the manager because I didn't have an itemised receipt. The lady who served me agreed that I had purchased the item less than half an hour before and that she had only given me the credit card receipt. However, the manager told me that it was my responsibility to ask for the itemised receipt.I left but then after calling up another Barnabas charity shop for advise was told that I should have been asked if I wanted a receipt.I returned and asked to speak to the manager again. She was upstairs and sent her teenage son downstairs to say that she wasn't going to refund me. She then came down. Not working in retail, I pointed out that there was not a sign to advise the need for an itemised receipt and if this was the case, shouldn't I be asked if I would like a receipt at point of sale. The manager who then became very rude, pointed out that it was her choice whether they asked customers if they wanted a receipt. After a long debate, the manager agreed to refund the amount and then made an unprofessional remark about my charitable character upon leaving. This was not about charity. As someone who donates to charity and supports charities, this was deeply offending. This was an issue about poor customer service and extremely poor management and therefore I wanted the refund out of principle. Please request an itemised receipt if you use this shop.
