I don’t understand how an office dedicated to Halifax mortgages was unable to help me change my name on my mortgage account and had to send me to a ‘real branch’

I walked into Cannon Street branch knowing it dealt with mortgages but needing to sort a problem out regarding a payment that I hadn't been able to find.
