“How much are you lying about those people, they are all very valuable people for us, I have known them all for 2 years, they are the best shop in Lewes...they are all good families for us...who knows what you have done to anger them....”

“Probably the best local shop in the world. I shop here often by choice as very convenient, lovely staff and owners and like to support the local community. It is amazing how many different products they sell other than food - pretty impressive! :)”

“Wow!! A real gem of a shop!! We went to visit the infamous Christmas Cellars! Which did not disappoint....amazing...so many lovely Christmas things! We then got some provisions, milk, bread - baked on the premises, avocados, tomatoes and absolutely scrummy danish pastries!! Delicious! Will definitely be back! Thank you”

“I wanted to pop out for a quick coffee & remembered seeing an advert on the roundabout nearby for this place. Well, a lovely, unexpected well-stocked post office & general store hides this little gem. At the back in a corner hidden away is this lovely tea room. Do more than teas with hot and cold choices. We settled for a chocolate and a slice of - die for - coffee & walnut cake, beautiful!! Will be returning later with a coach of oldies who will l know appreciate the afternoon tea they offer. I will add the staff lovely & friendly. Can you do cheese scones, please? The shop on way out had again lovely friendly staff. Certainly will be back. Many thanks for a pleasant hour”

“My parents opened this shop in the mid 1950’s and we lived in the flat above, no.3. All of my childhood memories revolve around here up until I was 10 years old. The store’s name then was A&J Pickerill, we didn’t have a car and my mum would walk with deliveries every lunchtime to customers. My father was able to start the business thanks to a loan from Sir Frank Sanderson who lived in the Manor House down the lane (now converted to flats) where he is buried in the private family plot at the church. My father was chauffeur to Sir Frank before that. I believe the loan was £3,000 but I might be wrong. It was interest free and repaid within 3 years.”

“It's a really important part of the local community. People stop to chat - at a distance, of course! - on the forecourt. It's a veritable, Aladdin's Cave of a shop with everything higgldy piggldy, but they always know where things are. The staff are a lovely friendly bunch. As you woukd expect, it's more expensive than a supermarket. But use it or lose it.”

“I have used this shop for a long time now and its the only shop i would use on nevill estate. Its open long hours with a large selection of alcohol, sweets, chocolates or even your usual grocery shopping items. Not to mention the half price national newspapers! But be sure to try out the home made selection freshly made and damn tasty!”
