The Plough Inn is a very welcoming Pub/B&B in the charming small village of Wreay. We stayed in a very tastefully decorated and furnished room with a kingsize bed which had just been refurbished (we were the first ones to stay and other rooms are currently being upgraded) As expected everything was very clean and new in the room. The ensuite has a very large shower and some toiletries were supplied. Full English Breakfast was amazing, all local produce used and very generous portions that set us up for the day. Sunday roasts were great, in fact all of the menu seems to live up to expectations, again no small portions. All in all we had a great stay, all of the staff are friendly. Sam is working very hard to get things right and Ben is doing great stuff in the kitchen. There are a few things that are needed to complete the rooms and we were told that these will be sorted. None of which spoilt our stay and we are looking forward to returning here again. ??

We had the most amazing family meet up lunch here ! I called ahead to book as we were a party of 8, happened to speak with the chef who was understanding that as it was a birthday surprise- we didn?t have to pre-order. The atmosphere as we walked in was warm and friendly with very helpful staff at the bar. We were not rushed to order and when we did the menu did not disappoint. The specials were all amazing sounding and ended up having a mixture of Burgers, fish & chips, pate, fish pie (fresh and OMG what a serving), the lamb shank (slid off the bone beautifully, and the star of the day the Game Pie. Wow, full of meat, and freshly cooked (hot water pastry I think), just amazing! I cannot fault anything about our visit- for a place that is just 5mins from the M6, a little south of Carlisle - it?s a gem of a village pub. If only I could lift it to where we stay ? Thanks so much and next time we pass - I?ll be popping in for a bite to eat and some warmth from the log burner! Note: pub is dog friendly (we left ours at home), and has a v cute wee Canine Menu. Superb asset to Wreath? ??????????

We visited this pub today to meet family for lunch. The food is gorgeous and a lot of it. Every dish we had (there was 8 of us) was just fantastic and so tasty. The fish is amazing, the kids loved the fish pie. A brilliant find and we will definitely be back again. The cosy wood burner fire was lovely too.

Last minute decided we wanted a proper pub meal and looked to see if we could get in The Plough as we had been wanting to try it for ages. We managed to secure a booking, probably as it?s January as this pub is ordinarily booked up. The pub inside is still traditional but also modern as it has obviously been tastefully re-furnished in the not too distant past. The food was superb. I opted for the mushroom starter which was way beyond the usual ?creamy, garlic mushrooms? most pubs seem to offer as a starter. It was rich and unctuous, served with fresh, still warm bread. For mains my wife chose the Plough Burger which was excellent and actually tasted of beef (at some places you?re lucky if they taste of anything) served on a freshly tasting seeded roll and with chips and onion rings (freshly cooked with lovely crispy batter). It?s a minor niggle but the chips had the appearance and texture of oven chips, still nice but fresh chips may have elevated this dish higher. I went for the special of Game Pie and I was not disappointed at all. Packed to rafters with game meat and tasted absolutely beautiful. As it was cooked fresh the waitress warned us there may be a wait for the pie, but it was not long at all, and I didn?t feel it could have arrived quicker. It was served with mustard mash and seasonable vegetables of which there was what I would term a ?proper? portion. The pie was full of gamey flavour with a hint of sweetness (possibly from the pastry which was in itself full of flavour). I was fully prepared to order a dessert but the pie was huge and very filling All in all an excellent meal in lovely pub setting and we will no doubt visit again.

The food was perfect and the service better. My daughter had the fish pie and said it was the best she had ever had, I had the mushroom pasta and it actually tasted of mushroom (too many chefs are scared to put taste into the food and provide tasteless mush) Will visit again every time we are in the area

Driving back from Bolton to Sunderland via Kendal. Found the Inn. What a great and affordable meal. The service was brilliant and the food amazing, if you're on the M6 or A69 you've got to try this place.

We had a great meal at this lovely country pub. We were a party of five who had starters, mains and shared some desserts. We all thoroughly enjoyed each of our courses and the food was of a really high standard. You could everything was fresh and homemade. This, along with the fantastic service and a lovely setting, meant we enjoyed our visit a lot.
