Having visited the Barbon Inn on a couple of occasions during the summer and thoroughly enjoyed the lunchtime food, we were looking forward to returning. However, it proved a bitterly disappointing experience and nothing like our previous visits. Having placed our order at around 12.05, including drinks - once we had eventually found the lady in charge who was nowhere to be seen to begin with - the food arrived at approximately 1.15pm and not a word was said by the host. The beef sandwich was very poor, unlike on our previous visits, with the tiny pieces of beef smeared in chutney. My parents had gammon which was more like cold boiled ham with very few chips. The chef/staff were totally different from our earlier visits. It is a shame because the pub is in a beautiful setting and the beer garden is particularly nice when the weather is good. Not surprisingly after this experience, we had the beer garden to ourselves on this occasion.

Pub not open as advertised staff have decided to close early. Don?t rely on this pub which is a shame as it?s in a beautiful place and too many of our rural Pubs are struggling to survive it seems daft turning business away

Very welcoming and friendly Inn. The breakfast was great, plenty to eat and drink. Helpful and courteous staff. Comfortable room and bed. Very quiet small village. WiFi was good from our bedroom (room 5).

We have been regulars at the Barbon Inn over the years for a lunchtime snack but today a new menu was on offer. We ordered the lite lunch which involved a choice of 5 dishes. Reasonably priced and the food was excellent. There was also a variety of sandwiches on offer. Overall, highly recommended - closed Monday and Tuesday at lunchtime.

The amenities are quite basic but what this hostelry lacks in refinements, it makes up for in the kindness and welcome of all its staff . The breakfasts are outstanding as is the service . Nothing is too much trouble

Very comfortable bed and very clean room. Delicious supper from sensibly modest menu. Excellent beer. Very friendly staff. Fantastic walks from the doorstep. Quiet village with beautiful architecture. Apparently I have to write more to reach 200 characters but that's it really: we loved it.

Very friendly. always happy to have a quick conversation when serving customers. Affordable prices. The shop is well set out it accommodates for the elderly well and just a pleasent experience whenever you need something from there

Slow service despite a booked table. My safe choice of fish and chips came with the formulae chips in a mesh basket. Very small portion of fish completed a fairly disappointing experience. Nice location but otherwise a bit of a let down.

I'd stayed here before with family and was really looking forward to going back for a short getaway as I had fond memories of the place. It's not what it was. The room was very shabby and basic with wallpaper coming off the wall. There was also no TV (unlike what it says under 'facilities' on TripAdvisor. You can only check in between 6pm and 9pm when the pub and restaurant are in full swing. It's not ideal standing in a pub with all your bags waiting for the only staff member on duty - and who was trying to serve food and drinks to about 20 people - to give you a key and show you to the room. (She was doing a great job but it's not fair on anyone to expect them to manage all that alone.) For the same reason, it took an hour for me to order and receive my dinner that night although the food was nice when it arrived. My room the first night was freezing. The next night I asked a staff member about this. It turned out that the power supply to the storage heater in my room and the towel rack had been turned off at the mains. My checkout experience was also a bit odd in that there was no one there to give my key back to. They seemed to expect you just to walk out after breakfast without speaking to anyone. There didn't seem to be anyone in charge there managing things, welcoming guests, taking keys back and so on. All things considered I thought it was overpriced for what it was. I won't be back for a third visit.

On a rather wet day we visited Barbon to go to the church for a photographic project I am undetaking. After the church visit we decided to try the pub for a drink and food. We had a really lovely and warm welcome. The room you enter, which I think is called The Lantern Room had a log fire burning and it was very beautiful. We decided to try the home-made quiche followed by apple crumble and custard. The service was excellent and the food delcious. I wanted to have a look around the pub to take some photos and this was no problem. A really lovely visit and we will definitely be going back.

Stayed in a cottage in Barbon so obviously the Barbon Inn was our local for 3 days. What a wonderful pub, made to feel welcome by the lovely ladies all weekend. Drank there all 3 days and had dinner on the saturday night. The food was exceptional, just the right amount and so so tasty. Rosie was made more than welcome and even got a new boyfriend - Harry :) Thank you for giving an all round great time.

We are always looking for new places to eat in and around Sedbergh so we tried the Barbon for the first time last night, great welcome, lovely cozy pub with open fire, varied menu. Can recommend the steak pie and homemade cheesecake of the day was to die for, will be returning.
